Yesterday, I had the honor of participating in a panel discussion on The Power of Vision, hosted by Busie Matsiko during the launch of her inspiring new book, Create the Life of Your Dreams.
It was an extraordinary event, full of deep conversations, meaningful connections, and powerful insights.
As I reflected on the discussions from the panel, one thought kept coming back to me and this was how the scarcity mindset is one of the biggest obstacles that holds us back from creating the life of our dreams. Scarcity convinces us that we are not enough, that opportunities are limited, that success is reserved for others but not for us. It keeps us small, fearful, and stuck, but abundance, growth, and fulfillment are always available when we choose to believe in them.
Here’s the truth: We have the power to choose.
No matter our environment, no matter the challenges we face, we can either act from a place of abundance or feel trapped by the limitations around us. During my undergraduate years, I became pregnant with my first child. I was terrified that I wouldn’t be able to finish my degree. I was due at the beginning of my senior year, and although it was hard to manage a newborn and college classes, I made the choice to be present, to ask for help, and to fight for my dreams, and I succeeded. I graduated with straight A’s, holding my baby in my arms at the ceremony, celebrating a victory that many could have put on pause due to life circumstances and responsibilities. There is always a way.
It's easy to believe that our circumstances define us, that the lack of resources, support, or opportunities is permanent. I am here to tell you based on my own experience that this is not true, I come from a place of very limited resources. The reality is that the most extraordinary dreams are built not because everything was perfectly in place, but because someone decided to see beyond the immediate, to act as if abundance was already within them, then things begin to open up. That was the way I was brought up to be better than my parents and it is now my responsibility to create that same opportunity for my children and my children’s children.
When we shift our focus from "what's missing" to "what's possible," we change everything. We open doors we didn’t even realize existed. We start creating the life we once only dreamed about. It is like magic and a feeling I can't describe in writing or words.
How to Start Shifting from Scarcity to Abundance
Cultivate Awareness
The first step is simply noticing where scarcity shows up. Are you telling yourself there's not enough time, money, opportunities, or love? Did you grow up thinking that money doesn't grow on trees? Awareness creates the space for change, why not believe that attracting money can be as easy as picking leaves from a tree?
Practice Gratitude
Gratitude is the fastest way to move into abundance. Give without expecting anything in return, give from the heart. Each day, write down a few things you are grateful for, no matter how small.
When you recognize what you already have, you create more room for growth.
Challenge Limiting Beliefs
Ask yourself: Is this thought absolutely true? Often, the stories we tell ourselves about lack are built on fear, not fact. Reframe your mindset: instead of “I can’t,” try “How can I?”
Act "As If"
Even if you don't feel abundant yet, start acting like you do. Create a vision board, dream of the impossible. Invest in yourself. Share your ideas generously. Trust that more is always coming. It is not your responsibility to figure out how, it is your responsibility to believe your dreams will come true. Energy flows where attention goes, and action creates momentum.
Surround Yourself with Abundance-Minded People
Environment matters. You've probably heard this a million times. Spend time with people who uplift you, who believe in possibilities, who remind you that your dreams are valid and achievable. Energy is contagious, be childlike in your faith and choose wisely.
Scarcity may whisper that you’re not enough, that your dreams are too big, that the world is too small. But abundance tells a different story: you are limitless, your dreams are valid, and the possibilities before you are endless. The life of your dreams is not a fantasy, it's a vision waiting for you to believe, act, and create it. So start emptying day by day your luggage full of dreams and make them a reality.
